About this book
What if the whole world were new—and the only other person in it made no sense to you?
In Mark Twain’s Eve’s Diary, Complete, the Garden of Eden becomes a place of questions, wonder, and gentle comedy. Writing in her private diary, Eve tries to understand the beauty around her. Everything invites a closer look, including Adam, the strange companion who sees their shared world so differently.
Twain gives this familiar Bible story a lively, curious voice rather than a solemn retelling. Eve wants to know how things work and what they are for. Her thoughts bring you close to the pleasure of discovery, while her ordinary days with Adam turn a comic account into a tender exploration of love.

In short
What would it feel like to open your eyes on the first day of the world, with no word for anything and no one to tell you what is what? In Eve's Diary, Mark Twain gives that day to Eve, and her first conclusion is that she must be an experiment.
From the 15-minute summary · Key idea 1
Eve wakes up and decides she is an experiment
The diary opens on Saturday, and Eve is almost a whole day old. She wants to start the record right, because some instinct tells her that historians will care about these details. She feels exactly like an experiment, and she decides that is what she is.
The world around her looks unfinished. The mountains are ragged and the plains are littered with scraps, because everything was rushed on the last day. She still calls the whole thing noble and beautiful. Her complaint is mild, like a visitor who admires a house that is still being painted.

What is Eve's Diary about?
It follows the first woman through her early days in the Garden, told in her own diary. She names animals, discovers fire and fear, and slowly falls in love with Adam, with short excerpts from his diary added.
Who wrote Eve's Diary and when?
Mark Twain wrote it, as a later companion to his earlier comic diary of Adam. It belongs to the last years of a career that ended with his death in 1910.
Is Eve's Diary a funny book or a serious one?
It is both. Most pages are comic, with Eve's confident guesses about reptiles, fire and brontosauruses, but the closing sections turn warm and tender as she thinks about love and loss.
