About this book
In the Canadian Northwest, the land is the hardest opponent—and sharing a trail means sharing the danger.
Two on the Trail by Hulbert Footner brings adventure and romance into the wild Canadian Northwest. Rivers, forests and open country shape the journey. Across these wide distances, travel becomes a test of endurance, and the pull of pursuit gives the trail an edge beyond the struggle to keep moving.
At the heart of this northern adventure is the bond between two people facing hard country together. Cold, hunger, injury and exhaustion give survival its urgency. Romance grows through shared hardship, where depending on another person for warmth, food and safety makes trust a necessity before it becomes a feeling.

A shared booth starts a strange friendship
In Papps's Restaurant, Garth Pevensey is shown into a narrow booth that already holds a farmer and his wife. A slender, pretty girl is then shown into the last seat across from him.
A flustered woman named Mrs. Pink arrives, looking for a lost husband. She takes Garth and the girl for a young married couple and gives them advice. Garth does not correct her. When she asks whether they met long ago, the girl answers briskly that it was half an hour ago, and leaves.
