About this book
What if the man outside the law is the one who stands up for justice?
In Sherwood Forest, Robin Hood makes a home beyond the reach of those who misuse their power. A master archer and a friend to the poor, he gathers the Merry Men around him. Bertha E. Bush's Stories of Robin Hood brings together the old English tales of his courage, loyalty, and quick wit.
The Sheriff of Nottingham keeps laying plans to catch Robin, while strangers test the outlaw's strength, skill, and humor. Rivals can become companions, and friendship matters as much as a steady bow. With Little John, Friar Tuck, and Will Scarlet among the greenwood company, these lively stories ask what justice means when the law serves the rich.

A boy's vow to help the poor
Young Robin learns that Peter the Ploughman has been hanged for shooting a deer in the king's forest. Peter did it to feed his hungry children. The Normans rule the Saxon common people with cruelty, and Robin calls such laws wicked.
He promises that when he is a man, the rich will share their wealth with the poor. He keeps that promise. He gathers a band in the forest, and the common people love them as the merry men of greenwood.
