Sobre este libro
What does a steel tycoon remember about the weaver’s cottage where his life begins?
In Autobiography of Andrew Carnegie, a boy from Dunfermline crosses the Atlantic and starts work in a cotton mill. Telegrams lead him toward Thomas A. Scott and the Pennsylvania Railroad. Carnegie tells his own story of work, opportunity, and the choices that carry him toward iron, bridges, and steel.
As his fortune grows, Carnegie faces another question: what should wealth be for? He explains his belief in giving it away and shares the friendships, travels, and causes beyond business. His voice is warm, funny, and boastful, but sometimes blind. This is a life seen through its owner’s eyes, not a balanced judgment of his labor record.

A weaver's son learns pride and rebellion
Andrew Carnegie is born on November 25, 1835, in the attic of a small house in Dunfermline, Scotland. His father is a damask weaver. His grandfather is a joker who still frightens elderly neighbors in disguise at seventy-five. From him, Andrew says, he inherits a sunny nature that can be trained like a muscle.
His mother's family is full of radical talk. Uncle Bailie Morrison calms an angry crowd outside a jail by asking friends of the good cause to fold their arms. Andrew grows up a young republican who hates privilege. Tales of the hero Wallace follow him through the dark Abbey churchyard.
