Para quién es
You will love this if you enjoy sparkling dialogue, society comedy, Edwardian London, Oscar Wilde's wit, and affectionate portraits of vain, kind and foolish people in love.
De qué trata este libro
What do you do when your husband loves racehorses and old china more than he loves being seen with you? That is the question facing Felicity, Lady Chetwode, in the first pages of The Twelfth Hour. She sits at her Louis Quinze mirror in Park Street while her brother Savile, a grave schoolboy of sixteen, asks her advice on love.
Ada Leverson wrote this comedy in the Edwardian years, and she fills it with the talk of London drawing rooms. Felicity collects admirers, her sister Sylvia loves her father's secretary, and a rich Greek banker wants to marry her. You get the plots, the people and the jokes in a clear, quick pass. The youngest person in the house solves the problems of the oldest.

A beauty at her mirror, a husband away
The story opens in the bedroom of Felicity, Lady Chetwode, in Park Street. She is about twenty-five, small and fair, and she has been called a beauty since the age of two. Her husband has furnished every corner in the French style of Louis Quinze. He is seldom there to enjoy it, and if anyone asks after him, the answer is nearly always that he is away.
Her brother Savile comes in, sixteen years old, handsome and very serious. He talks like a man of the world and scolds her for dining out while her husband is at Newmarket. In a few minutes the talk gives the whole cast. Their sister Sylvia is hunted by Mr. Ridokanaki, a Greek banker, and Savile suspects she likes their father's secretary, Frank Woodville.
Felicity is hurt that Chetwode would rather watch horses or buy furniture than attend her father's party. Yet she decides never to nag him, because a husband should be free. He writes her long letters nearly every day, but his handwriting is so bad that she keeps them unread in a striped silk box. A wife can be adored and still feel left alone.
That’s 1 of 10 key points.
