Chapter 3 de 28 · 34 min para leer el capítulo

In Chapter 3, Sir Kenneth and Sheerkohf exchange names and beliefs as they cross the wilderness, where a violent hermit attacks the Saracen before offering both travelers shelter. Kenneth recognizes their host as Theodorick of Engaddi but doubts his fitness to receive the important messages entrusted to him, so he decides to wait and watch.

Qué sucede

  1. The travelers leave the spring, exchange names, and debate military strength, knightly rank, love, and Scotland’s independence.
  2. In the rocky wilderness, Kenneth fears evil spirits while Sheerkohf sings and recounts his family’s claimed descent from supernatural beings.
  3. A man in goatskins attacks Sheerkohf, and Kenneth finally demands his companion’s release despite their religious differences.
  4. The attacker identifies himself as Theodorick of Engaddi and leads both warriors to his cavern for shelter and food.
  5. Sheerkohf describes the hermit’s learning, violence, and reputation for inspiration, leaving Kenneth cautious about delivering his entrusted messages.
  6. The companions help each other undress, pray separately, and fall asleep.
