De qué trata este libro
The Magic of Oz is the last tale of Oz that L. Frank Baum finished, written in 1919 at his home in Hollywood, California. In a short note he tells his young readers that he hopes it will suit their love of the unusual. It is a children's fantasy about a word so powerful that it can turn anyone into anything, and about the people who want that power.
The story begins on a mountain at the edge of Oz, where a sulky boy named Kiki Aru finds his father's hidden secret. It moves to the court of a wild forest, a hidden island with a flower that traps travelers, and a birthday party in the Emerald City. Along the way you meet Dorothy, the Wizard, a vain glass cat, a sailor with a wooden leg and a lonesome duck. The first key point is the boy and his stolen word.

A sulky boy finds a secret word
On the eastern edge of Oz stands Mount Munch. Its top is shaped like a deep saucer, and in it live the Hyups, who seldom go down because the slopes are too steep. One of them is an old sorcerer named Bini Aru. Ozma has forbidden magic to everyone except Glinda and the Wizard, so he has given it up.
But Bini Aru has made one discovery that nobody else knows. A single word, Pyrzqxgl, will change a person into a beast, a bird, a fish or anything else that can talk, and the same word changes the person back. Before he stops using magic, he writes down how to say it and hides the note under a floorboard in his own house. The word works only when it is pronounced exactly right, and he is the only one who can do it.
His son Kiki Aru is cross and unhappy, because he longs to see the big world and his father will not allow it. While his parents are at the yearly festival, Kiki stubs his toe on that very board, pries it up and finds the writing on its underside. He copies the instructions, memorizes them and hides the paper in a tin box under stones in the garden.
Then he tries the word on himself and becomes a hawk. He knows he is breaking the law of Oz, so he flies the other way, across the Deadly Desert, to see the lands beyond. He visits places with names like Noland and Ix, becomes a magpie to steal a gold piece, and a sparrow scolds him for it. Kiki answers that he has always wanted to be wicked. A loud laugh behind him tells him someone agrees.
That’s 1 of 6 key points.
