De qué trata este libro
The Adventurous Seven is a novel by Bessie Marchant, an English writer who made her name with adventure stories for young readers. It follows seven orphaned-in-all-but-name English children, the Plumsteads, who leave a quiet village for the bush country of New South Wales to find the father they have not seen for seven years.
The book gives you a long road trip told with warmth and fun. You get a family that never quarrels, a poet who forgets the one letter that matters, a cattle stampede at midnight, a lost brother, a fever, a mining town and a mystery about a doctor's old disgrace. Courage here is cheerful and practical, and it comes from looking after one another.
The story begins in a crowded schoolroom in the village of Beechleigh, where a lecturer from Sydney is talking about Australia, and a whispered idea passes down a row of seats.

A whisper in the schoolroom starts everything
The story opens in the packed village schoolroom at Beechleigh. A stout, sweating lecturer from Sydney is praising New South Wales as a poor man's paradise, and the seven Plumstead children are his most eager listeners. Rumple cheers in the wrong places, and Billykins shouts for an encore, though the talk has already run well over an hour.
Nealie, the eldest at nineteen, leans over and whispers that they might all go out to join their father. She says it would help him and end his loneliness. The whisper passes down the row, and the great idea is born. Afterward the children crowd round the lecturer and explain, rather tangled, that their father is a doctor somewhere in New South Wales.
The walk home in the dark and drizzle shows who they are. Nealie carries little Ducky on her back, Sylvia and Rumple help the lame Rupert, and Don and Billykins bring up the rear. They talk like magpies about how to find the money. Nealie decides to ask their guardian, Mr. Runciman, because he is always complaining about the cost of keeping them.
The home they reach is the small house of their late great-aunt Judith Webber, run by the thin and gloomy Mrs. Puffin. Nealie jokes about their missing umbrellas and promises seed cake in bed. Behind her laughter lies a worry. Nealie has long mothered the rest, and she lies awake planning how seven young people can march into a rich man's library and be too many to refuse.
That’s 1 of 8 key points.
