De qué trata este libro
Shadows in Zamboula is a Conan adventure by Robert E. Howard, a pulp fantasy tale of swordplay and dark magic set in an invented age of ancient kingdoms. It follows Conan, a Cimmerian barbarian, through one long night in a desert city where strangers vanish after dark.
Howard fills the short tale with a crowded bazaar, a poisonous high priest, a wrestler who kills with his bare hands and a woman whose story keeps shifting. You get a fast plot, vivid places and a hero who trusts his own senses more than rumor. The first key point begins in the busy Sword-Makers' Bazaar, where a nomad whispers a warning.

A Warning in the Bazaar
The tale opens in the Sword-Makers' Bazaar of Zamboula, where a ragged nomad of the Zuagir tribe grips Conan's arm. He warns that travelers who sleep at the tavern of Aram Baksh are never seen again, and that charred bones lie in a pit in a palm grove at the desert's edge. The nomad is sure the innkeeper is a demon who feeds his guests to the gods of the wasteland.
Conan does not believe it, but he listens. He has sold his horse and spent nearly all his silver, and Aram's rooms are the cheapest around. Howard uses the pause to sketch the city, built by Stygians and now ruled by Turanians, with Pelishtim mercenaries on the watch, and merchants, courtesans, slaves and beggars pressed together in the streets. People whisper that the satrap Jungir Khan is ruled by his mistress Nafertari.
At dusk Conan walks west to the last house on the road. He notices that beggars avoid the empty huts across the way, and that a shaven Stygian scholar in the taproom laughs with a chilling cynicism. Aram, a soft-footed man, shows him to a handsome room with barred windows and heavy bolts. Conan lies down with his sword in his hand, and beyond the palm trees a drum begins to beat.
That’s 1 of 4 key points.
