De qué trata este libro
Marjorie's Busy Days is a children's novel by Carolyn Wells, set in the small town of Rockwell and built from the everyday adventures of a lively twelve-year-old girl. Marjorie Maynard, called Midget or Mopsy, lives with her brother Kingdon, her sister Kitty and her baby sister Rosy Posy in a big house with seven acres of garden. Her warm parents give the children room to play, pretend and make mistakes.
Each chapter brings a fresh scheme, from a shipwreck game on the lawn to a rainy-day picnic indoors, a school prank, a Halloween party, a secret club and a charity bazaar. Marjorie never means harm, yet her ideas keep landing her in trouble. You get a funny, affectionate picture of family life and the small lessons that come with growing up. Let us begin with the first game, a shipwreck on a very green desert island.

Four children and a desert island
The book opens on a bright September morning on the Maynards' south veranda. Kingdon, Marjorie, Kitty and little Rosy Posy choose a shipwreck for their morning game. Kingdon, the eldest and the only boy, usually gets his way because his ideas are so good, though Marjorie is almost as inventive.
The big double swing becomes an ocean liner, and Kingdon plays the captain. Kitty carries her doll Arabella, and Rosy Posy hugs her teddy bear Boffin and plays Buffalo Bill. The captain's geography is a happy muddle, and he points out West Point and the Statue of Liberty, which is really their own mother standing on the veranda. The children laugh but keep straight faces, because that is part of the fun.
When the ship sinks, they swim across the grass to a desert island under a maple tree. Kitty refuses to swim because it spoils her dress, so she rides a raft made from the gangplank. Marjorie has secretly stocked the island with eggs, crackers, pears and oranges, which the others find with great delight.
The rule of the game is that real outsiders must rescue them. Their rescuer is the new butcher's boy, who first thinks they are ill and then happily joins the pretence. The scene shows what the whole book is about: imagination, loyalty between the children and a household that lets them play.
That’s 1 of 8 key points.
