A tailor's boast opens royal doors

The collection opens with a bluffer who relies on nerve and quick thinking. In the town of Romadia, a little tailor swats a swarm of flies and kills seven. He has a suit of armor made with a golden boast on the breastplate, and everyone who reads it thinks seven men fell.

The king hires him, then wants him gone. His first demand sends the tailor after two giants who terrorize the country. He promises his daughter and half his kingdom as a reward. The tailor throws stones from a tree until the giants blame each other and fight. The king sends a hundred horsemen along, but the tailor tells them to wait outside the forest. He wants to face the danger on his own.

The lesson is that quick wits beat muscle, and that a good story about yourself can open doors. The same cheerful bluster fills the tale of the seven Swabians, who share one spear and run from a hornet.

That’s 1 of 9 key points.
