You will love this if you enjoy ancient stories that fill the silences of Genesis, if you care about Adam and Eve as people, or if you like early voices on guilt, mercy and resurrection.
De qué trata este libro
What would the first man say when he feels his body begin to fail? In the Apocalypse of Moses, Adam lies sick after nine hundred and thirty years. He gathers his children and says he is crushed by trouble, but they ask him what trouble is. Then he sends Eve and Seth to the gates of Paradise to beg for a little oil of mercy.
This is an ancient Jewish retelling of the life of Adam and Eve after Eden. It survives in Greek, and its author is unknown. The title borrows the name of Moses to give the story weight, though Moses plays no part in it. You get the inner life of the first family, with Eve given a voice of her own, and Adam taking his share of the weight.

Adam falls sick and gathers his children
The story opens after the garden. Adam and Eve live toward the sunrise, and Eve bears two sons, Cain and Abel. The work is told like a family record, from the human side of the gate.
Eve has a dream. She sees the blood of Abel poured into the mouth of Cain, who drinks it without pity. Abel begs him to leave a little, but Cain gulps it all down. Adam and Eve go to see, and they find Abel murdered by his brother.
God sends the archangel Michael with a word for Adam. He must not grieve without hope, for God will give him another son in Abel's place. That son is Seth. Adam goes on to father thirty sons and thirty daughters, and he lives nine hundred and thirty years.
Then he falls sick and cries out in a loud voice. He asks all his sons to come, that he may see them before he dies. Seth asks what is wrong, and Adam says he is crushed by the burden of trouble. The children ask a simple question. What is trouble? They ask their father what trouble is.
Every grief had a first day, and this is the day a family sits beside it. Adam and Eve are parents here before they are symbols. A family must learn the meaning of trouble from the pain of its own father.
That’s 1 of 7 key points.
