In Chapter 363, Sir Galahad takes the white shield, refuses Sir Uwaine’s company, and meets the white knight who explains its history. What happens

- Galahad takes the shield and allows only the squire to accompany him, so Uwaine departs.
- At the hermitage, the white knight tells Galahad how Joseph’s company reaches Sarras and Evelake accepts Christianity.
- Evelake defeats Tolleme after uncovering the shield’s cross, and a wounded man receives a miraculous healing.
- The cross disappears, Evelake and many townspeople receive baptism, and Evelake accompanies Joseph to Great Britain.
- A pagan imprisons Joseph, but Mondrames destroys the captor, frees Joseph, and the people embrace Christianity.
