Sucedió en Egipto in short

The book follows a small band of friends from Naples to the edge of the Sudan. Ernest Borrow sets out to chase a legend about a queen's tomb, and on the way he meets the girl he has loved since childhood and an American heiress who needs a lesson. His friend Anthony plays a double game as a guide in disguise.

What Sucedió en Egipto is about

What would you do if the guide a rich American girl picks out on a hotel terrace turned out to be your oldest friend in disguise? That is the moment that hooks Lord Ernest Borrow in Cairo, where a tall man in a green turban looks at Miss Gilder and says nothing.

It Happened in Egypt is a romantic adventure by C. N. Williamson and A. M. Williamson, a husband and wife who wrote lively travel novels. Ernest tells the story himself. He is a young British diplomat, nicknamed Duffer, who laughs at his own mistakes. His voice carries you from Naples to Alexandria, up the Nile, and into the Sudan. Old papers point to a black hill called the Mountain of the Golden Pyramid, where a queen may lie among her jewels.

Para quién es. You will enjoy this if you love old-fashioned romance with a laugh in it, travel on the Nile, disguises and secret treasure, and a narrator who tells the tale against himself.

A secret and an old love meet aboard ship

The story opens on the Laconia, a liner steaming from Naples to Alexandria. Ernest Borrow, a British diplomat, paces the deck and thinks about his great secret. An Italian Egyptologist named Ferlini left papers about a hidden tomb, and Ernest has passed them to his friend Captain Anthony Fenton. Fenton believes they point to a fortune under a small black mountain.

Then a soft voice says, Why, Duffer, dear, and Ernest turns to find Brigit O'Brien. He has loved her since he was four, and he has not seen her in ten years. She is the widow of a socialist leader who betrayed his secret society. She travels as Mrs. Jones, companion to Rosamond Gilder, called Monny, the richest unmarried girl in America. Brigit decides at once that Ernest should marry her.

The ship is full of strange figures. Monny's aunt believes she is Cleopatra come again, and a bride shut in a cabin by her Turkish husband is known as the Ship's Mystery.

Everyone aboard carries a secret, and the plot grows out of that.
