Resumen de Idilios del rey
Para quién es
For readers who love the Arthur legends, rich and musical language, and Victorian stories about duty and desire, and who enjoy seeing a fine ideal tested.
De qué trata este libro
Imagine a land in chaos and a young man whose claim to the crown many doubt. Tennyson wrote it over more than fifty years, in blank verse, drawing on Malory and the Welsh Mabinogion. Arthur is almost spotless. The failures belong to the people around him, as love, pride, doubt and appetite wear down the vows they swore.

A doubtful king unites a broken land
The first idyll opens on a country in ruin. Roman rule has gone, raiders roam, and petty kings fight each other. Into this mess comes a young man named Arthur, who claims the crown.
Many doubt him, since his birth is wrapped in mystery. Arthur answers with deeds, and his enemies fall back. Then he founds the Round Table, whose knights swear to reverence the king, right the wrongs of the weak, speak no slander and love one maiden only.
These vows are the measuring stick for the whole poem. When a later knight breaks one, you know exactly what has been lost. Arthur also wins Guinevere and sends his friend Lancelot to bring her, and Tennyson plants danger quietly in that choice.
