- Books you keep: Titles bought with credits or a card stay in your Audible Library after cancellation.
- What ends: For plans billed directly by Audible, unused credits and benefits end with the final billing cycle; catalogue titles become locked.
- Store billing: Cancel Apple App Store or Google Play plans through that store. Credits from these plans stay in your account.
- Pause option: Eligible monthly plans can pause for 30, 60 or 90 days, subject to limits.
You can cancel Audible and keep titles bought with credits or a card: use Audible's website for a directly billed plan, or the Apple App Store or Google Play for a store-billed plan. The billing route also determines what happens to unused credits. Directly billed credits disappear at the end of the final billing cycle, while store-billed credits remain in your account. Access to the Plus Catalog ends, so purchased titles and catalogue access have different outcomes.
This guide covers what stays in your Library, the four website cancellation steps, the separate rules for Apple and Google billing, and eligibility for a pause. A final section describes the Library of Alexandria's offer for readers of classics.
What you keep and what ends
Audible's help article Cancel membership is dated 6 May 2026. It says titles bought with credits or a card remain in your Library and are yours to keep. Cancellation does not remove those purchases. The distinction is how you obtained a title: a credit purchase counts as a purchase, while access through the catalogue is a benefit that ends.
For a plan billed directly by Audible, unused credits and benefits end at the close of your final billing cycle. Titles obtained through the catalogue become locked, even if they are already saved on your device. Audible can change these terms; its help center holds the current wording. The billing-store exception for unused credits is set out below.
How to cancel on the Audible website
Audible's cancellation help article gives these four steps for a computer:
- Select your name.
- Select Membership details.
- Select the Cancel membership link.
- Select Confirm cancellation.
If you pay through Apple or Google
Plans billed through the Apple App Store or Google Play cannot be cancelled on Audible's website. Cancel through the App Store or Google Play instead; each store has its own steps. A missing cancellation option on Audible can also mean you are signed in to the wrong account. The mobile website uses a similar cancellation process to the computer website, starting from the main menu.
Credits from Apple App Store or Google Play plans do not expire and stay in your account after cancellation. That is a specific exception to the directly billed credit rule, not a continuation of catalogue access. Deleting the Audible app does not cancel your plan, regardless of whether you intended the deletion to stop it.
Pausing instead of cancelling
Audible's Pause your membership article is dated 9 September 2026. A pause may be available if you have credits you do not want to lose. Payments stop during the pause, and you retain access to titles you bought. The pause help article sets out eligibility and the limits on repeated pauses.
- Only monthly plans can be paused; annual plans are not eligible for a pause.
- You need 30 days of paid time on your plan before a pause is available.
- A pause lasts 30, 60 or 90 days, within the overall allowance.
- You can take up to three pauses in a 12-month period, totalling no more than 90 days.
- The 12-month period starts when your plan resumes from its first pause.
- If you cancel during a pause, you are not billed and retain benefits until the current billing period ends.
What the Library of Alexandria offers
The Library of Alexandria offers classics in 25 languages, with one plan covering five accounts. Every book has a 15-minute summary. Cancellation is available online in your account in two clicks; the plan cancellation help page explains that process. The plan page shows the date of the first payment and a cancel link.
Any book can be printed at cost as a paperback, hardcover or large-print volume. Each book's page shows its editions before an order, and the printed-book information page describes the print offer. These are the Library of Alexandria's own account and book options, separate from the Audible cancellation process.
Facts about Audible on this page come from Audible's own help articles (cancelling, 6 May 2026; pausing, 9 September 2026; the Premium plan, 20 August 2026), read on 24 October 2026. Audible can change its terms; its help center holds the current wording.

Questions about cancelling Audible
Do I lose my bought books if I cancel Audible?
No. Titles bought with a credit or a card stay in your Audible Library and are yours to keep. Titles accessed through the Plus Catalog have a different status: that access ends when your benefits end. Having a catalogue title saved on your device does not prevent it from becoming locked.
What happens to my unused credits when I cancel?
Unused credits from a directly billed Audible plan are lost at the end of your final billing cycle. Credits from plans billed through the Apple App Store or Google Play do not expire and remain in your account after cancellation. The billing route therefore matters even though purchased titles remain yours in either case.
Does deleting the Audible app cancel my plan?
No. Deleting the Audible app does not cancel your plan. A directly billed plan uses Audible's cancellation process; an Apple App Store or Google Play plan must be cancelled through that store. If Audible's website does not show a cancellation option, its help article says you may be signed in to the wrong account.
How do I cancel Audible if I pay through Apple or Google?
Cancel through the Apple App Store or Google Play, whichever bills your plan. Audible's website cannot cancel these store-billed plans, and each store has its own cancellation steps. Credits attached to those plans stay in your account after cancellation and do not expire; catalogue access does not receive that same exception.
Can I pause Audible instead of cancelling?
Yes, an eligible monthly plan can be paused after 30 days of paid time; annual plans are not eligible. Pauses last 30, 60 or 90 days. Up to three pauses are allowed within a 12-month period, but together they cannot exceed 90 days. Payments pause too, and access to purchased titles continues.
