Chapter 11 de 57 · 7 min para leer el chapter
In Chapter 11, Fanny Robin reaches Sergeant Troy at his barracks and asks him to arrange their marriage, but he delays taking practical steps. Their conversation reveals her anxiety and his evasiveness, while his agreement to visit her lodgings leaves the marriage arrangements unsettled.
Qué sucede
- At ten on a snowy evening, a small figure counts barracks windows and throws snow across the river to attract attention.
- Sergeant Troy opens his window, and Fanny Robin identifies herself, calling herself his wife.
- Troy says the closed gates and his lack of leave prevent him from joining her.
- Fanny presses him about marriage, explaining that banns must be announced in both their parishes.
- Troy postpones arrangements, admits he lacks officers’ permission, and agrees to visit her at Mrs. Twills’s.
- Fanny leaves, and mocking calls to the sergeant give way to laughter inside the barracks.
