Chapter 25 de 129 · Part 1 · 26 min para leer el chapter

In Chapter 25, Don Quixote chooses a mountain retreat to imitate the madness and penance of famous knights, and sends Sancho to Dulcinea with a letter. Sancho learns that Dulcinea is Aldonza Lorenzo, a woman he knows, while his master openly defends shaping her beauty and rank in his imagination.

Qué sucede

  1. Don Quixote lifts Sancho’s speaking ban for their mountain journey, then defends his quarrel with Cardenio over Queen Madásima.
  2. He announces a penance modeled on Amadís and Roldán, arguing that madness without a cause proves exceptional devotion.
  3. He chooses a meadow beside a stream, frees Rocinante from his saddle, and asks Sancho to report his suffering.
  4. Sancho recognizes Dulcinea as Aldonza Lorenzo, and Don Quixote explains that his imagined picture of her is enough.
  5. Sancho marks his route with branches, returns to witness two somersaults, and departs satisfied that he can testify to his master’s madness.
