Billy Budd: resumen de Part 42

Qué sucede

1. John Gentian lives at the Burgundy Club, where his seniority and agreeable character make him the Dean.
2. His hospitality and commanding appearance coexist with casual dress, blunt speech, and disregard for some social rules.
3. The narrator connects his swearing with frontier experience and military service, questioning whether such language reveals moral wrongdoing.
4. Detractors suspect aristocratic sympathies because Gentian wears an inherited Cincinnati badge at formal banquets.
5. The narrator explains the badge’s Revolutionary origins, and Gentian declares it superior to monarchical decorations.

En qué fijarte

The narrator distinguishes Revolutionary inheritance from admiration for monarchy. This directly answers the suspicion raised by Gentian’s public display of his badge.
