A quarrel ends and a farm lies burned
At Camp Sunset, Bessie King and Dolly Ransom talk about the snobbish girls from Halsted Camp. Dolly still holds a grudge, yet she feels guilty about a mouse trick that caused two girls to get lost on the mountain. Miss Eleanor teaches that revenge hurts the one who takes it.
Then the Halsted girls arrive with an apology and gifts of woven blankets. Dolly hugs Marcia Bates, and the quarrel is over. The two groups ride the steamer together, singing Camp Fire songs.
On the road the hike meets woods blackened by a great fire. At a bend the girls find a family before the ashes of their farmhouse. Sarah Pratt, a widow, answers Eleanor's kindness with scorn. Eleanor does not leave. She decides the whole troop will stop and help.
That’s 1 of 6 key points.
