In this ancient text, he receives visions from heavenly messengers, prays, and learns of a coming savior. Baptism and the invoking of heavenly powers form part of a revelation concerned with what lies above and what is to come.

Melchizedek survives in a badly damaged Coptic manuscript found near Nag Hammadi in Egypt. Its author is unknown, and scholars link it to early Christian, Gnostic, and Sethian traditions. Rather than a continuous story, it offers fragments of visions and prayers: a glimpse of how readers outside the biblical canon understand this enigmatic priest.

Inside this book

The priest behind the mystery – Meet the figure whose brief appearance in Genesis opens onto a wider spiritual world.

Messages from above – Follow Melchizedek as a heavenly messenger reveals what is above and what is to come.

Baptism and heavenly powers – Explore a revelation where baptism, prayer, and the invoking of heavenly powers appear together.

A savior to come – Consider how this text presents a coming savior within its apocalyptic visions.

Fragments beyond the canon – Encounter a damaged witness to religious traditions outside the Jewish and Christian biblical canons.

Perfect for readers of early Christian and Jewish writings, anyone curious about Nag Hammadi, and those wondering why Melchizedek matters.

Open the first page and enter the surviving visions of this mysterious priest.
