About this book
What if Adam’s last words reveal a creation story in which humanity knows more than its maker?
In The Apocalypse of Adam, a dying Adam passes hidden knowledge to his son Seth. According to the text, Adam and Eve once share a radiant understanding from an eternal realm, beyond the god who creates them. When that knowledge fades, its surviving trace becomes the heart of a struggle between human beings and the powers above them.
This short ancient revelation follows the seed of Seth through a vision of flood, fire, and threatened destruction. At its center stands the Illuminator, who brings light and knowledge from a higher realm. Attributed to Adam and preserved in Coptic among the Nag Hammadi writings, it offers an unfamiliar retelling of Genesis whose roots and meaning remain debated.

A Coptic testament from the Nag Hammadi find
The Apocalypse of Adam was copied onto papyrus in Coptic in the fourth century, in a codex found near Nag Hammadi in Egypt. It stands in Codex V, alongside other revelation texts, including works attributed to Paul and to James. Its title in the manuscript is the Apocalypse of Adam, and the word apocalypse here means an unveiling, a disclosure of hidden things.
The form is a testament. A dying patriarch gathers a son and passes on what he knows. Jewish and Christian traditions have many such texts, and Adam and Seth appear in several of them. Here Adam does not give moral advice or family news. He gives a secret history of the world and its future, and he tells it in the first person.
