In short

Arsène Lupin Intervenes is a collection of stories by the French writer Maurice Leblanc, who gave the world the gentleman burglar Arsène Lupin. Leblanc began the series in Paris in the early 1900s, at a time when readers loved detective tales and wanted a hero who stood on the other side of the law.

A thief who plays by his own rules

Arsène Lupin is a gentleman burglar. He steals from the wealthy, dresses well, speaks with ease and treats crime as a kind of sport. He is not a brute. He prefers a clever plan to a loud one, and he often leaves his victims more amused than harmed.

Who is Arsène Lupin?

Arsène Lupin is a gentleman burglar created by Maurice Leblanc. He steals with charm and cleverness, uses many disguises and names, and often outwits the police, which makes him both a criminal and the hero of the stories.

Is Arsène Lupin based on a real person?

Lupin is a fictional character. Leblanc created him for a French magazine in the early 1900s, as a French answer to the popular detectives of the time, and he did not base him on a single real thief.

Who is Inspector Ganimard?

Ganimard is a Paris police inspector who often pursues Lupin. He is honest and stubborn, and he rarely wins, so he acts as Lupin's main rival and a foil for his cleverness.
