A careless wish and a burning boathouse
Noddy sulks over his morning chore of washing out the boathouse. He grumbles that he wishes the whole building would burn down. Only the thought of Bertha makes him pick up his broom.
Then Bertha's twelve-year-old sister Fanny coaxes him to row her across the river to the circus. As they pull away, smoke rises behind them and the boathouse is soon a mass of flames. Noddy knows his angry words will make him the first suspect.
On the way home Fanny admits she set the fire herself. She wants to confess, but Noddy begs her not to, since he would be blamed for the idea. She gives way, and the choice nags at her.
