Worum es in diesem Buch geht
Rose in Bloom is a novel by Louisa May Alcott, published in 1876. It is the sequel to Eight Cousins. In that earlier book, Rose Campbell is a girl who comes to live among her large family and grows up under the care of her uncle. Here she is a young woman, and the question is what kind of woman she will be.
Alcott wrote for young readers, but she took their choices seriously. In this book you meet a family that loves Rose, friends who need her, and suitors who want her. You will see how she learns to tell real affection from flattery, and what she makes of her own freedom. Let us start with Rose herself and the world waiting for her.

Rose steps into grown-up life
The story picks up with Rose Campbell no longer a child. She is a young woman from a wealthy family, and everyone around her has plans and hopes for her. The household of relatives who shaped her youth is still close, and the many cousins have grown up too.
Rose has been raised with care and with firm ideas about health, work and character. Her uncle Alec, a doctor, has been her guardian, and his teaching stands behind much of what she believes. Now those lessons will meet the pleasures and pressures of society.
This part of the book asks a plain question. What does a girl do with her education and her money when the whole world seems to be open to her? Alcott lets Rose enjoy her new life, but she also shows that enjoyment is not the same as wisdom. Rose wants to be useful and good. She also wants to be admired, and the story keeps both wishes in view as she goes out among people who are eager to know her.
