For readers who like frontier adventure, strong-willed heroines, and stories where love, conscience and money pull against each other, set in a snowbound mining camp with duels, sieges and endless Arctic nights.
Worum es in diesem Buch geht
Picture a Yukon winter so cold that the only warmth in the dark is a glow of lamplight over a gold camp. A Girl of the Klondike, a short novel by Victoria Cross, is set in Dawson City in that season. It follows a saloonkeeper's daughter, two very different miners, and the fever for gold that bends everyone it touches. The author watches cold, light and dark closely, and she watches what greed does to people.

A girl with pistols meets two men
Winter has closed the passes, and Dawson glows with lamplight. In the Pistol Shot saloon, Katrine Poniatovsky leans on the bar with two revolvers in her belt. She is about nineteen and watches the crowd with weary scorn.
Shy Stephen Wood came to the Klondike as a missionary, yet now holds a fine claim in the west gulch. Henry Talbot, his neighbor, is tall, pale and finely mannered. The three take to each other at once.
The men walk Katrine home through the snow. In a dance hall Stephen grips her arm to stop a dance, troubled by his conscience and already fascinated. In the morning he heads straight for her door.
That’s 1 of 9 key points.
